RINDGE, NH (May 31, 2022) – Tony Lombardo, a resident of Rindge, NH, began realizing that pet owners were using his acres of land as a dumping ground for their unwanted animals . . . Being the kind-hearted, animal-lover he is, Lombardo took this as a sign to transform his property into an animal sanctuary for these forgotten animals. This is how Ticket to Heaven Animal Rescue (TTHAR) got its name and began its journey.
Whether they were puppies, senior pets, or pets with special needs, Tony would find the resources to help them find their forever homes and get them the healthcare they needed to survive and THRIVE.
TTHAR took in a Pomeranian puppy with swimmer’s syndrome named Toby. Toby was abandoned and unable to walk or move. His condition left Toby with his legs splayed out to the side, making standing on his own impossible. Tony knew that this tiny pup would have a long road ahead and partnered with Canine Strong, a Concord, NH rehabilitation facility to give Toby his best chance of recovery. Canine Strong knew Toby would need a dog wheelchair and connected Tony with Walkin’ Pets, a NH-based pet mobility company.
The Walkin’ Pets team was happy to help! Walkin’ Pets donated a wheelchair to Toby to assist him in his rehabilitation journey and ultimately help Toby become more adoptable. The Walkin’ Pets team drove to Canine Strong to gift him with his new wheels, spending time with him to make sure his wheelchair was the perfect fit and helping Toby adjust to his new cart. Toby’s full support Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair will be utilized in Toby’s therapy sessions to help him reposition his legs and hopefully move on his own. “We can see improvement already! We hope the wheelchair will give him more freedom with his legs,” says Tony.
The wheelchair will help Toby build up strength in the standing position and exercise and train his muscles to walk correctly and be more independent. Tony hopes that with more practice in his wheels and physical therapy, “Toby will be strong enough, and someone will be able to adopt him. This will allow us the opportunity to help more animals like Toby down the road!” This is just the beginning for Ticket to Heaven Animal Rescue. The more animals helped, the more determined they are to give these animals the life they so desperately deserve.
