(October 18, 2022) – Baby Steven, a mixed-breed special needs puppy, is searching for his forever home. Steven did not have the easiest start in life. He was found dragging himself around during the Kentucky floods by Sweet Paws Rescue in Massachusetts, who traveled to Kentucky to help search for displaced animals during the disaster.
When they found Baby Steven, he appeared to be immobile from the waist down, and upon further evaluation, they discovered a bullet from a BB-gun lodged in his spinal cord, causing his paralysis.
Sweet Paws transported Baby Steven, along with others, north to Massachusetts, where they would take him to be seen for further medical evaluation and give him a second chance at life.
No longer in pain and undergoing rehab and physical therapy, Baby Steven was able to visit Walkin’ Pets, a NH-based pet mobility company, where he was fitted for a rear support dog wheelchair to gain back his freedom and independence!
“He really likes to be able to move with the help of his wheels, run. and play with other dogs. The wheelchair gives him the opportunity to get his energy out since he’s a puppy, and he loves it,” said Christine Cooke, Baby Steven’s foster mom.
Now in great spirits, Steven is available for adoption! Sweet Paws would appreciate someone with has experience caring for a disabled dog and would continue their efforts of rehabbing him and tending to his special needs.
“He has a really good disposition, and I would never overlook that kind of dog ever, even if they have special needs,” said Christine.
