AMHERST, NH (December 14, 2016) – Walkin’ Pets by HandicappedPets.com donated a Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair to the Lakota Animal Care Project,which helps dogs on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The wheelchair went to a Husky mix rescue dog with a “can do” attitude, even though its rear legs are completely paralyzed.
The Lakota Animal Care Project is a nonprofit organization that strives to make a difference in the lives of some of the 20,000 dogs on the Reservation, many of them in dire need of veterinary care. The organization offers spay/neuter services with the help of volunteer veterinarians and vet techs, facilitates rescues and adoptions, and runs an educational program for school children on the Reservation to enhance awareness about and compassion for animals.
Walkin’ Pets learned about the hardworking organization when its founder, Virginia Ravndal, reached out to inquire about dog wheelchair options for the dog “Can Do,” named after its upbeat attitude. A Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair was donated to the growing pup, who adapted to it very quickly. Can Do was placed under the care of a foster family through the Lakota Animal Care Project and will be moved to a permanent home in time for Christmas.
