Sizing a Toy or Teacup Dog for a Wheelchair
Tiny dogs weighing between 2 and 10 lbs. need a Mini Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair, this size cart is designed for toy breeds and smaller pets. Use the chart below to determine the right size wheelchair for your dog. This guide will help you determine the frame size and wheel size for your dog’s height.
If your dog weighs between 11 and 26 lbs., they will need a Small Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair. The chart below will help you determine the wheelchair frame size and wheel size only – your dog will require different length struts depending on their rear leg height measurement.
Dogs weighing between 27 to 49 lbs., will need a Medium wheelchair with 8″ wheels (strut length will vary depending on your dog’s rear leg height). Mid-sized dogs weighing between 50 to 70 lbs., will need a Medium/Large Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair – this size features a medium wheelchair frame with 12″ or 16″ wheels. Use the chart below to determine the best size wheelchair for your medium-sized dog, remember the strut length will vary depending on your dog’s leg height.
Large dogs weighing between 70 to 85 lbs. will need a Large Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchair frame with 12″ wheels. Dogs weighing 85 – 180 lbs. will also be in a large frame, however they will need the larger 16″ wheels. The appropriate strut length will vary depending on the dog’s rear leg height measurement.
In some cases, you can get your dog a larger wheel size, but not always. This will depend entirely on your dog’s rear leg height. Picking a too large wheel for your dog can impact your level of adjustment and cause the wheelchair to be too tall for your dog. Before you buy, contact our wheelchair experts at 888-253-0777. We will help you make the best decision for your dog and help you get the right size wheelchair for your dog’s measurement.
