What is especially important is that you can do something about this!
Like the article says, “Children should be taught to care for and respect animals.” This is so critical and is something that every parent can do: help nurture respect for animals in their child. This action can have a long-reaching positive impact for animals.
Another helpful point that the article stresses is to “Take children seriously if they report that animals are being neglected or mistreated.” This is something that every adult can do! There are things that seem beyond the realm of the average person’s ability to do or influence because people are busy or overwhelmed by the scope of a problem. But we can all listen to what children say about animals that are in their everyday life!
